The Faith Academy Centre for Special Education (FACSE) is a special education school in central Trinidad, West Indies, delivering quality services to children and young adults with disabilities.

As of February 4th 2019 the positions of Teacher Assistant and Lead Teacher are no longer available. We thank every applicant for their interest in working at Faith Academy and wish all success to those who are still in the job search.

Teacher Assistant

Key Duties and Responsibilities
Assists with delivery of the school curriculum to assigned class; assists in planning, arranging and participation in school activities, projects, field trips, functions and other events; performs routine care giving tasks, helping with materials and activities, receiving children, interacting with them and attending to their physical needs according to School standards; ensures the safety and well-being of children, writes reports and interacts with parents as needed.
• Assist in teaching assigned class, selecting and arranging equipment and materials in the classroom, updating and maintaining student progress records; monitoring supplies;
• Assist in planning, organizing and participation in daily activities, field trips, sporting events, community visits;
• Perform care giving tasks to students, attending to their physical needs according to School standards. Help serve appropriate snacks/meals where applicable;
• Assist in maintaining a comprehensive and ongoing portfolio for each child assigned;
• Assist with preparation and delivery of lessons/ teaching resources to assigned students; assist with assessments within timelines;
• Maintain a personal appearance that exemplifies the School’s faith based principles and be able to participate or lead in daily worship assembly;
• Assist with the use and maintenance of specialized equipment and facilities for vocational/life skills projects;
• Liaise with and assist School Committees as directed by supervisor;
• Assist with initiatives to promote the School as required by supervisor;
• As assigned, ensure school buildings and compound are secured at end of each work day and perform daily clean up of facilities;
• Prepare written reports as needed;
• Perform any other related duties as may be required.
Minimum qualifications and experience
A certificate in special education and at least one (1) year teaching experience in special education or related field. Care giving experience in a pre-school or day care centre will be an asset. At least two references are required, one of which must be from your home church.
Lead Teacher
Duties and Responsibilities
Prepares and delivers the school curriculum; performs day to day management of the school operations including supervision of staff; plans, arranges and participates in school activities and projects including field trips, functions and other events; as directed, sources and oversees external contractors/workmen that may be engaged from time to time; works with staff and a variety of materials to promote the healthy emotional, social, intellectual, and physical development of each child; establishes an environment that promotes positive interactions with others; ensures that staff monitors children in the classroom, playground, bathrooms, during lunch and pick-up/drop off areas; accounts for whereabouts and safety of children at all times and supervises the serving of appropriate snacks/meals where applicable.
• Perform day to day School administration, develop and maintain financial, personnel and academic records, prepare payroll;
• Ensure school supplies are procured and creditors/contractors/workmen are paid;
• Supervise Teachers, Teacher Assistants and support staff to maintain the smooth functioning of the School; maintain a personal appearance and conduct that exemplifies the School’s faith based standards and be able to lead or participate in daily worship assembly;
• Plan, organize and coordinate School activities including daily activities, field trips, sporting events, community visits and any other related activities;
• Liaise with and advise School Committees on school progress and long term development;
• Develop and implement initiatives for student retention and to increase school population in consultation with management;
• Maintain a comprehensive, ongoing portfolio assessment for each child; update and maintain records on students’ progress; liaise closely with parents/guardians on student progress;
• Ensure lessons and teaching resources are prepared and delivered; select and arrange equipment and materials in the classroom; ensure work is marked and assessed;
• Supervise staff in developing adaptive teaching methods to meet the individual needs of pupils;
• Collaborate with staff and management to develop appropriate activities/projects for students;
• Supervise the use of special equipment and facilities to stimulate interest in learning;
• Assess incoming students to identify learning difficulties and other individual special needs;
• Ensure school buildings, facilities and equipment are secured at end of each working day;
• Ensure buildings, facilities and operations meet fire and other safety requirements including fire extinguisher maintenance and emergency evacuation drills.
• Prepare periodic reports for Principal;
• Perform any other related duties as may be required from time to time.
Minimum qualifications and experience
A tertiary level qualification in special education and at least two (2) years teaching experience in special education or related field. Administrative experience in an educational establishment or related field will be an asset. At least two references are required, one of which must be from your home church.
